The Worship and Spiritual Growth Ministry:

Worship in our church is planned and supported by the Worship and Spiritual Growth (WSG) ministry, in partnership with the Pastor and the Music Director.  The WSG ministry is also charged with developing worship besides the Sunday service, including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and our outdoor worship at Pratt-Wayne Woods.  The ministry also coordinates other special services (such as the Wayne Blessing of the Hounds each fall).  The work of this ministry also includes communion set-up, assigning ushers and pulpit associates, arranging for acolytes, and setting up flower arrangements (including Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies).

The Music Committee also falls under this ministry.  Music is a highlight of our worship experience.  Under the guidance of the Music Director, adult and children’s choirs participate regularly in worship.  Other members of the church augment the choirs for seasonal events (including special music at Christmas and Easter and a cantata that is performed on Palm Sunday).  Guest soloists and performers (from both within and outside the congregation) often provide special music and solos throughout the year.

WSG also plans events that supplement our worship experience. This includes the Hanging of the Greens, potluck suppers that accompany worship, and various concerts.

How can I become involved in the WSG Ministry?

*Do you like to sing?  Join the choir.  You don’t even have to read music!
Like to sing but can’t commit to the “every week” nature of the choir?  Sing in the Christmas Choir or the Palm Sunday Cantata.
*Do you play an instrument?  Do you have the talent and courage to sing a solo?  Then provide “special music” at any point during the year (especially during the summer)
*Are you a baker?  Bake bread for communion.
*Serve as a Pulpit Associate, helping the pastor by reading scripture and leading worship.
*If public speaking not your “thing,” serve as an Usher or Communion Steward.
*Help to set up for or clean up after communion.
*Help sign up people to provide the flowers that beautify our sanctuary each Sunday.  Better yet, glorify God with flowers from your own garden!
